A few friendly reminders for winter in Williamson.

The Williamson Highway Department has a dedicated crew of five full-time employees.  The Outside Water Department crew and a part-time employee help plow Town parking lots and sidewalks.  There are five dump trucks with plows and salters/sanders.  Crews are on the roads when it is time to plow in the mornings by 4 am.  If weather dictates, there is an afternoon run and trucks are back in the shop by 9 pm.  We do not plow 24 hours or overnight.  Remember not to crowd the plows – give trucks space on the roads so drivers can safely do their jobs.

There is NO PARKING on any roads in the Town of Williamson between midnight and 6:00 am from November 1 – April 1.  This is stated in Chapter 166 of the Town Code.  Violators will be ticketed.

Mailboxes are most commonly knocked off their posts by wet, heavy snow.  If your post is rotted it should be replaced or sturdied up for winter.  If a plow does hit a mailbox, we will come fix it as a courtesy.  It will be replaced with a generic metal mailbox.

Please keep garbage toters back from the edge of the road, at least to the back of your mailbox, so the plow or heavy snow doesn’t hit them and create a mess.

Please be safe, have a happy holiday season, and enjoy the winter.

Respectfully,
Kurt Allman
Superintendent of Highways
