I strongly encourage the public to attend all meetings.
The Town of Williamson Water Department has been awarded the 2015 Water Quality Award from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). This award recognizes public water systems that were able to maintain a consistent optimal level of fluoridation in the water supply throughout the 2015 calendar year. Fluoride is added to the public water to help prevent tooth decay. Congratulations to all town employees who are involved with the fresh water production in the town.
The Town of Williamson Spring Clean-Up is scheduled for Thursday – May 4th from 9:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m., Friday – May 5th from 9:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m., and Saturday – May 6th from 9:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. This is for Town of Williamson residents only. Addresses will be checked upon entry. There are 2 changes this year. Only regular car and pick-up tires will be taken for a fee. The recycling vendor is not accepting large truck or tractor tires. Second, for the electronic recycling, there will be a small fee, $3.00 for computer pieces and $5.00 for TVs. At the 2016 spring electronic recycling, 2 to 3 truck loads of electronics were collected, more than anticipated pushing up the costs.
By now all town property owners should have received their new tentative property assessments. Our Town Assessor, Dawn Van Patten and staff have worked very diligently to compile accurate, current and fair property assessments. The purpose of updating the property assessments is to have fair equitable property assessments, verify any property changes, and change assessments based on recent market sales of similar properties. If you would like to review your assessment with the assessor, please call 315-589-9074 from 8:00 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. Monday – Friday to schedule an appointment. The official grievance day to challenge your assessment is May 23th.
The town currently has 2 water storage tanks as part of the total fresh water system. One tank holds 1 million gallons and was refurbished in 2014. The second tank is a 750,000 gallon tank that is over 100 years old. The storage tanks are used to maintain pressure in the system during high demand times. It is not cost effective to refurbish the 100 year old tank. The town has been working with Wayne County Water & Sewer Authority (WCW&SA) to evaluate options. At this time the best option is to contribute to a regional water tank that would support numerous towns and villages managed by WCW&SA (Wayne County). Since the town has been anticipating this cost for a few years there is sufficient money in the Water Fund – Capital Reserve to pay any expenses for this. This approach to a regional solution will eliminate the need for many towns to build independent storage facilities and costs can be shared without losing any benefits. I will share more information in the next few months when more details are available.
The Community based Solar Program is still alive. With the help of NYSERDA (New York State Energy and Research Development Authority) Solarize returns to the Town of Williamson as the Town and Larsen Engineers work together to award CIR Electric as their preferred installer for their upcoming Community Solar Campaign. “We are in the pre-planning stages of a Community Solar Installation,” said Ashly Regan the Director of Business Development from CIR. With a proposed 4MW system located in RG&E territory, the Town will help boost installation capacity, while providing solar to anyone interested in that specific utility load zone.
